Peppery are working with the Bangladeshi Support Group to programme the main stage at this unique event which celebrates the diversity in Ipswich and Suffolk as a whole, bringing communities together through music, dance, arts and crafts, and food in a fun environment. This year’s Peppery Stage at Global Rhythm again features award winning artists, many of whom will go on later in the summer to star at major festivals such as Womad and Africa Oye. The line up is:-

Shikor Bangladesh All Stars – six of the country’s best traditional musicians who are in the UK for the first time (and also appearing at Womad). After their set they'll be joined on stage by Lokkhi Terra who add Congolese, Cuban and township jazz grooves to the mix. With special guest Dele Sosimi (ex Fela Kuti’s Egypt 80 and music advisor to the west end musical “Fela”)

She'Koyokh“One of the finest klezmer ensembles on the planet” (The Australian) fronted by award winning Turkish singer Cigdem Aslan, and nominated for “Best Group” in the 2015 Songlines Awards.

West African palm-wine and highlife from ABDUL TEEJAY'S ROKOTO (from Sierra Leone/Guinea) - described in the Guardian as "The best exponents of African dance music").

NOEMI NUTI

with support - South Suffolk Youth Jazz Ensemble

Up-and-coming Latin jazz vocalist Noemi Nuti presents a special evening of Brazilian and Cuban music with a jazz twist. She will be joined by leading UK trumpeter Quentin Collins(trumpet/flugelhorn), Andrew McCormack (piano) and world-class drummer Ernesto Simpson, who has played with some of the greatest musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Omar SosaRounding out the quintet is 'British Jazz Award Rising Talent' Tim Thornton on bass. Expect Latin standards, original songs and classic Brazilian Bossa Novas, in which Noemi has a special interest, as well as material from Noemi’s debut album on Ubuntu Music, Nice to Meet You. This is a joint Peppery/Jazz East promotion as part of the inaugural Ipswich jazz Festival which runs from 19th - 28th June, with concerts, workshops, pub sessions etc across the town. Calaita

Grounded in authentic Spanish traditions, Calaita Flamenco Son’s innovative flamenco combines passionate vocals, awe-inspiring guitar virtuosity, intense percussion and jazz-inflected saxophone.

Calaita Flamenco Son was formed by Sevillan singer and guitarist Chico Pere, guitarist Glenn Sharp and percussionist Leo Paredes. The trio soon expanded to include Diana Castro’s soulful Spanish vocals and Matt Nickson’s jazz-inflected saxophone.

This year's festival - presented by the Bangladeshi Support Centre http://www.bscentre.org.uk - features music programmed by Peppery, including Lokkhi Terra ("probably the world's best afrobeat-Cuban-Bangladeshi group" - Songlines);  Zimbabwean band Harare - led by ex Bhundu Boy Kadaushe Matimba - who combine urban Jit-Jive with hypnotic mbira polyrhythms; and London based rappers Tazzz and Raxstar. The festival also has a full programme of music and dance, world food, 5 a side football and kabbadi, cultural and heritage displays, market bazaar, kid's activities etc etc.

Ipswich's annual free festival  of world music is coming up with The Mad Marching Hare Band parading through the park, free dance workshops on Christchurch lawn with Dance East,  international food stalls, and of course 3 stages of world and roots music. 

On the Peppery Stage our line up is 

LOS CHARLY'S ORCHESTRA at 1.15
Nuyorican disco band who combine a retro and exhilarating modern sound. Stirring the musical melting pot, they craft their unique fusion out of Afro – Latin beat, Latin Jazz and disco funk.
ZONG ZING ALLSTARS at 2.45
9 piece band playing uplifting dance music called 'Cavacha' - the core rhythm of Central African music that has given rise to ‘Soukous’ in the Democratic Republic of Congo, ‘Makosa’ in Cameroon and ‘Coupez Decallez’ in the Ivory Coast.

2014 Songlines Music Awards winners - a seven piece band fronted by Venezualan vocal powerhouse Luzmira Zerpa, London born percussionist Jack Yglesias, and Nigerian/Ghanaian percussionist Kwame Crentsil

Blending the hottest Hindi film hits with riotous Indian wedding music and Punjabi beats - a unique take on the compulsively danceable rhythms of the most popular music in the world.
